Tree-cycling 2020! County Recycles Holiday Trees & Greenery

All Day
December 26, 2020 January 15, 2021

To help make the holidays greener, the Solid Waste Division of the Department of Environmental Management will again offer tree-cycling.

Residential customers are encouraged to tree-cycle their holiday trees and kadomatsu decorations at the following Recycling & Transfer Stations: Kea‘au, Pāhoa, Kealakehe (Kailua-Kona), Ke‘ei, and Waimea, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. during their normal days of operation.

At the East Hawai‘i Organics Facility (EHOF) in Hilo, from December 26, 2020, through January 15, 2021, customers can tree-cycle holiday trees from 7:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. (closed from 12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. daily).  Residential customers with only holiday trees for tree-cycling may proceed directly to the EHOF and ask the attendant or look for the designated tree-cycling area—there is no need to go to the County scalehouse, as normally required.  Residential loads with both greenwaste and holiday trees must go to the County scalehouse to be weighed.  All commercial haulers or commercial holiday tree collectors must proceed to the County scalehouse prior to recycling.

At the West Hawai‘i Organics Facility (WHOF) in Pu‘uanahulu, from December 26, 2020, through January 15, 2021 (closed Sundays), customers can tree-cycle holiday trees from 7:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.  Residential customers with holiday trees and/or greenwaste will not be charged a tip fee but must go to the County scalehouse.  All commercial haulers or commercial holiday tree collectors must proceed to the County scalehouse prior to recycling.

Please be aware that all decorations, stands, lights, wires, tinsel, and ornaments must be removed prior to tree-cycling.  Please note that artificial trees, flocked trees, or trees with decorations cannot be tree-cycled, but may be disposed of in the regular trash chutes.

Mahalo for recycling and keeping these resources out of the County landfill.
