Temporary Dengue Residential Tire Amnesty Collection Program

All Day
November 23, 2015 May 14, 2016

Due to the recent Dengue Fever outbreak on Hawai‘i Island the Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division is implementing a Temporary Dengue Residential Tire Amnesty Collection Program to aid the community in reducing the risk of mosquito breeding sites by recycling old tires.

Collection period: November 23, 2015 to May 14, 2016.

Households may bring in passenger vehicle, motorcycle or ATV tires with no rims to any of the Solid Waste Division's 22 Recycling & Transfer Stations during normal operating hours.  Customers must locate the Solid Waste Facility Attendant (SWFA) on duty (they will have fluorescent safety vest on) and advise the SWFA that they have acceptable tires for recycling, the SWFA will instruct the customer where to properly place the tires.  Tires dropped off before or after normal operating hours will be considered illegal dumping.

There is a 10 (acceptable) tire limit per day per vehicle so that we can fairly serve the public and ensure that one customer doesn't overload the site and unnecessarily prevent other customers from participating in the temporary collection.

We are not accepting tires from businesses, commercial haulers, non-profits or farms.  We are not accepting industrial tires (e.g. backhoe, tractor, forklift & etc. tires).  Also no passenger vehicle tires with rims.

This Temporary Dengue Residential Tire Amnesty Collection Program may be extended if conditions warrant additional time to fight the Dengue outbreak.

Mahalo for your kōkua.
