NOTICE: Closure Of All Solid Waste Division Facilities Due to Hurricane Madeline

All Day
August 31, 2016

All County Solid Waste Facilities (including all Recycling & Transfer Stations and Landfills) will be closed on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 due to Hurricane Madeline.  Facilities will be closed in preparation for potential storm effects.  Facilities are anticipated to reopen during their normal scheduled hours starting on Thursday, September 1, 2016 but may be closed longer due to storm impacts, please pay attention to County of Hawai‘i Civil Defense Alerts & Messages for the latest on closures and re-openings.

For the safety of your fellow residents and County employees, please hold on to your rubbish until the Transfer Stations and Landfills have been deemed safe and reopen.  We ask for your kōkua in not depositing your trash in front of the Transfer Station gates, as that will only impede reopening the sites.

We apologize in advance for this inconvenience and after the closures we plan to reopen our facilities as soon as Civil Defense determines that it is safe to resume normal operations.  For the schedule of normal hours of operation for Recycling & Transfer Stations and Landfills go to our Facilities page.

Be safe.  Please stay home or seek emergency shelter, avoid unnecessary travel and keep the roadways clear for emergency personnel.  Be prepared for any weather conditions.  For more information on the current Civil Defense message please go to their website: http://www.hawaiicounty.gov/active-alerts/.  For the latest weather report go to: National Weather Service – Hilo Forecast.

For tips on how to prepare for natural disasters or emergencies visit our Facilities – Emergency Preparations page for more information.  Do not dispose of your rubbish at our closed Recycling & Transfer Station gates.

Mahalo for your kōkua.
