Pāhoa Recycling & Transfer Station on Apa‘a Street to be Temporarily Relocated Due to Lava Flow

All Day

October 24 - November 14, 2014
Due to the close proximity of the June 27th lava flow to Apa‘a Street, the Solid Waste
Division (SWD) is relocating the County’s recycling and refuse services from the Pāhoa
Recycling and Transfer Station. We anticipate closing the existing Pāhoa Recycling and
Refuse Transfer Station due to pending Civil Defense (CD) road closure of Apa‘a
(Cemetery) Street at close of business on Friday October 24th, 2014. Recycling
services, including green waste, scrap metal, white goods, HI-5 and Reuse areas will
close at 12 Noon Friday, October 24th, 2014 in order to allow time to move equipment.
A new temporary site has been selected, and operations are scheduled to begin at the
new site on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 6:00 a.m. The new site is located on Kauhale
The closure of the existing Pāhoa Recycling and Transfer Station is not expected to
cause significant disruption to services. The County anticipates providing as many of
the current services at the new site as possible. These services include residential
refuse disposal, mixed recycling, white goods/scrap metal, green waste, HI-5 and reuse
center.
Mahalo for your cooperation! If you have any questions, please contact the Solid Waste
Division Administrative Office at 808-961-8270.
