NOTICE – Facility Closures

August 7 – August 9, 2014 – 12:00PM – 6:00AM

THE COUNTY SOLID WASTE DIVISION TRANSFER STATIONS AND LANDFILLS WILL BE CLOSED TODAY, Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 12 Noon DUE TO DETERIORATING WEATHER CONDITIONS CAUSED BY HURRICANE ISELLE.  THE COUNTY SOLID WASTE DIVISION TRANSFER STATIONS AND LANDFILLS WILL REMAIN CLOSED ON Friday, August 8, 2014.

All transfer Stations and landfills may return to their regular schedules on Saturday, August 9, 2014.  Please listen to the radio, check the newspapers or call 961-8270 on Friday for further information.

FOR THE SAFETY OF THE RESIDENTS AND COUNTY EMPLOYEES, PLEASE HOLD ON TO YOUR RUBBISH UNTIL THE TRANSFER STATIONS AND LANDFILLS HAVE BEEN DEEMED SAFE AND REOPEN.  WE ASK FOR YOUR KOKUA IN NOT DEPOSITING TRASH IN FRONT OF THE TRANSFER STATION GATES.

FURTHER UPDATES ON CLOSURES AND RE-OPENINGS WILL BE FORTHCOMING.

The following County of Hawai‘i Solid Waste Facilities will be closed starting at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 7th, 2014 and mayreopen on Saturday, August 9th, 2014 AS CONDITIONS ALLOW:  All Recycling & Transfer Stations (including HI-5 Certified Redemption Centers, Mix/Glass Recycling Bins, Reuse Centers, Scrap Metal/Appliance and Greenwaste Recycling & Mulch Loading located at the Recycling & Transfer Stations), Hilo Landfill and Pu‘uanahulu Landfill.  Please check with Civil Defense broadcasts or local newspapers for updated information or call the Solid Waste Division office at 961-8270.

Also all County of Hawai‘i offices including the Administrative offices of the County of Hawai‘i Solid Waste Division will be closed starting 12:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7th, 2014 and all day Friday, August 8th, 2014 for natural disaster preparation.

The Reuse centers at the Hāwī, Kea’au, Kealakehe, Keauhou, Pāhoa and Waimea Recycling & Transfer Stations will be closed all day Thursday, August 7th, 2014 and Friday, August 8th, 2014.

We apologize in advance for this inconvenience and after the closures we plan to reopen our facilities as soon as Civil Defense determines that it is safe to resume normal operations.  For the schedule of normal hours of operation for Recycling & Transfer Stations and Landfills go to our Facilities page.
