NEW ASSISTED LOADING OF MULCH SERVICE AVAILABLE IN KAILUA-KONA
County of Hawai‘i is pleased to announce a new program for West Hawai‘i! Beginning, Thursday, July 24, 2014, the Kealakehe Recycling and Transfer Station in Kailua-Kona will offer assisted mechanical loading of mulch. Free mulch is also available for manual (no mechanized equipment allowed) self-loading at the Kealakehe Site 7 days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The service will be offered Thursdays and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. only. There will be a small loading fee of $5.00 to $18.00 depending upon the size and type of vehicle. Customers will be required to pay at the time of service and will be served on a first come basis while supplies of mulch are available. Please note that the only forms of acceptable payment are MasterCard and VISA debit/credit cards. No cash or checks will be accepted. This facility also has mulch available for manual self loading without any fees during normal hours of operation. Please make sure your vehicle has a tarp or other method for covering your mulch load to avoid spillage on roadways.
Mulch has many benefits including improving the quality of your soil, providing an insulating layer on topsoil, keeping weeds down and minimizing water needs.
Mulch is also available without any loading fees at the County’s West Hawai‘i Organics Facility (WHOF) located adjacent to the West Hawai‘i Sanitary Landfill in Pu‘uanahulu.
